LENAWEE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONDEMNS ADRIAN COLLEGE 2024 COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER CHOICE

Adrian, MI, March 15, 2024 - The Lenawee Democratic Party finds much to be disgusted with in the choice of Riley Gaines as Adrian College's commencement speaker. This person has helped to denigrate and condemn a whole subsection of the population who are trying to find their way in the world by being their true selves.  Her words and actions have been instrumental in the bullying and hate-mongering of a vulnerable segment of the population.  To have her give the commencement address where a number of those people she despises will doubtless be in attendance shows that President Docking is more concerned with his base of supporters than the students he has been chosen to lead.

President Docking had the option of showing real leadership and finding a speaker who could address the students and provide a true uplifting message instead of a message of hate and disgust.  Instead he has decided to appease his supporters while ignoring the needs of the students.  Maybe the board of Adrian College should look again at the type of leadership President Docking is providing.  After all, shouldn't the students come first instead of the donors?

The Lenawee Democratic Party does not condone President Docking's actions and will take a stand against hate for any group, whenever and wherever it arises, forever.

Candidate Recruitment

Lenawee County Democrats,

We need a strong turnout from Democrats across the board this year. The key for a resurgence of Democratic influence here in Lenawee County will be organizing and identifying candidates for office.

We need people like YOU to:
  • attend county, township, city, and village government meetings.
  • hold your local elected officials accountable.
  • run for office.

We need ordinary, everyday people like you to fulfill the citizen oversight and engagement role that our democratic republic requires to function well in service to We the People.

If you are or know of someone who may be willing to answer the call to service please let me know. We are beginning the process of actively recruiting and meeting with potential candidates

Special thanks to Stevie Paula, Bill Swift, Leslie Carpenter, Juanita Kelley, Pat Ulanowicz, and Lora Arriaga for all the help with the yummy food.

Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.
